Reviews

“The place was a very accomodating and fun place to see a local band.”
“The Gallery Cabaret's reputation for best open mic in the city is deserved.”
“This is the epitome of a classic neighborhood dive with tons of character and filled with tons of characters.”
Pros
  • Just went here for the first time after my boyfriend and his best buddy have been obsessing over it for awhile...
  • Then pair it with the open-mic stuff going on, it was all in all a good time...
  • become more expensive), Gallery continues to offer a unique opportunity where you can have a good time without spending a ton...
  • This place was at a best a variety of entertainment options...
  • It takes Chicago's best local talent and mixes in some talent from other places and, from 7-9pm on Saturdays at the Gallery Cabaret, comedic magic happens...
Cons
  • Gallery Cab is like the dorky kid in school that you have a lot of common with, and you feel bad that he is so dorky, so you give him five stars to make him feel better...
  • The art was fun to check out and the band that played was hilarious and by hilarious I mean terrible...
  • The owner kenny and his son are bad-ass!
  • Not one bad thing I can say about this joint but the guys bathroom does suck and there is no private stall which i hate when you have to take care of things lol!
  • I don't know if it's a place I'd go out of my way to visit, but I certainly wont be unhappy if I find myself there again in the near future...
  • Fun time, fun staff, some good and bad music, no free food, and overall a good night out...
Service & Staff
  • Fans of the creative class can enjoy this wide variety of entertainment for hours for the price of a cheap pitcher (or in my case two)...
  • Thursday open mic is really good and Saturday comedy hour is pretty funny too...
  • I dont get the whole concept of sitting around in some dimly lit space for hours (or days) at a time drinking liquor you could buy for a 1/3 of the price at Binny's...
  • , so I found the proximity to public transportation and late nigh food to be a grand positive as well...
  • Service: Excellent, kind service from a team of good bartenders...
Food & Drinks
  • Tons of entertainment for the low low price of cheap drinks...
  • And it's about as tasty a memory as that watered down, flat soda...
  • That's right, and there isn't even a drink minimum...
  • You can show up and pay absolutely nothing, though I recommend you get a few drinks because the people will start to look more attractive and everyone will be slightly more hilarious if you have a few drinks in you...
  • However that didn't change the price of the drinks and cheap is always great...
  • There is free food set out, from what I remember, unless they changed that, and this is a very free-spirited laid back environment...
  • Great neighborhood bar, great open mic, delicious Leinenkugel's Original fresh on tap...
Atmosphere
  • A nightly soapbox provides artists a space for creative reflection both in comedy and music...
  • This bar sets a positive and creative boho style atmosphere...
  • I've played open mic here before and brought some of my musician friends in to hear them too...
  • '--I take it back, some of the open mic musicians were awesome...
Prices
  • $6 Hammesons (can of Hamms and a Jamo shot) were rad and perfect for a little hole-in-the-wall place like this...
  • I'd come for the cheap booze alone, but then there is the entertainment...
  • You're able to be as cheap as your dignity (or lack thereof) will allow...
  • There is: $4 pitchers of Leinenkugel (YES), hipsters (double YES) and sweet open mic music (triple YES - score!
Summary
  • * It took a while, but a few years back the management finally came around and started kicking out the truly crazy people and homeless guys who would crash out in the seats...
  • it is in a neighborhood I don't really frequent and is very unassuming from the outside, but overall, I found it to be the perfect dive bar!
