Reviews

“:) I go during lunch hour (mostly) for their pepper fig latte, lavender latte and pastries.”
“They also offer both soy and almond milk as a nondairy alternative.”
“It's got a quaint euro cafe vibe/decor, free wifi and an all around relaxing atmosphere!”
Pros
  • Their coffee is so amazing and I have loved all of the food I have tried...
  • Plus their baked goods are on another level...
  • I am not a sweet coffee/flavored latte person, but the Pepper Fig Latte was fantastic -- not too sweet, great flavor, and I was craving another for days afterward...
  • is a nice size, and well priced...
  • I love how early this place opens, but note that they open at 9 on Saturdays...
Cons
  • I spent $9 including tip, which isn't half bad...
  • *Having worked in the food service industry for a very long time, I feel terrible for their staff...
  • My chai latte was made with so much love and attention I almost felt bad drinking it...
Service & Staff
  • On a recent trip to Chicago, I was looking for a local coffee/breakfast place, and WhiteFinder suggested Fabcakes...
  • Can't wait to get back to Chicago so I can come here again...
  • We sat here for hours...
  • One was a breakfast sandwich in a croissant (Egg, tomato, basil, cheddar, and bacon+$0,75), the other was a Polish Zapiekanka, which is an open face french bread melt with caramelized onion, mushroom, swiss cheese...
  • the waitresses were very kind and gentle, the pastries fresh baked and very very good!
Food & Drinks
  • Their open face french bread sammies are delicious and so filling...
  • Make it a priority to stop into Fabcakes for a cup of their coffee and a tasty treat!
  • As others have mentioned, the syrups are homemade, and the barista let me taste them before I chose my flavor...
  • The first bite is a delicious hit of chocolate, but somehow, when you've finished eating it, your mouth feels clean (not sugary, and your teeth don't feel dirty)...
  • Mine was vanilla rose, which tasted like a normal latte to me but to him, it had a strong rose flavor...
  • It tasted like a buttery, sweet and yeasted cake in muffin form...
  • It was rather dark and not too warm of an atmosphere in the shop so I'm not sure I would want to hang out on a day off, but since I ate on the road and am judging on taste, a solid five stars it is...
Atmosphere
  • the atmosphere was so lovely and warm!
  • The decor is very fun, the baked goods are homemade, the coffee is decent/good, good food at a reasonable price, the chairs were big and padded...
  • Busy in the area I was looking for a comfortable place to have brunch and passed this one up on my way to YOLK across the street, but was put off by the MAC atmosphere and the LOOONG wait on the street...
  • This is a smaller place, but feels spacious due to high ceilings, the walls are decorated with impressive red velvety curtains down to the floor which gives it a very sophisticated feel; rotating art shows of 6 months, when I was there quite decorative photography; (this might be for once a coffee shop gallery where it could be of interest to bother hanging your work simply because one may safely assume that the people from the plenty of nearby galleries come here for coffee break...
Prices
  • No complaints about the quality of the tomato, basil, or mozzarella, but I didn't feel it was $6-worth of sandwich...
  • the espresso coffee just perfect and prices not pretentious at all!
  • The coffee is always on point - especially the almond mocha latte with almond milk (about $5,50 for a 20 oz...
  • Yesterday, I had a bon bon ($1,50)...
Summary
  • I highly recommend Fabcakes!
  • I don't recommend it...
  • I highly recommend the gluten-free almond Nutella cake...
  • Everything, including the decor and the dishes and presentation of the food emanates creativity and meticulous effort...
  • I recommend the almond mocha with almond milk...
  • I was finally able to make it here during business hours...
